Overview
Alsco Orlando, a high-volume industrial laundry operation, partnered with WSI to improve water efficiency, reduce operating costs, and enhance wash quality without compromising throughput. Through the implementation of TRUpath™ 2.0, the plant has realized substantial and measurable gains across sustainability and operations.
The Challenge
Like many large-scale laundries, Alsco Orlando faced increasing pressure to:
- Reduce water and sewer costs
- Improve sustainability performance
- Maintain production levels without disruption
- Enhance wash quality across classifications
Historically, the plant had been unable to take washers offline without negatively impacting production, limiting opportunities for maintenance and efficiency improvements.
The Solution: TRUpath™ 2.0 Implementation
WSI deployed its TRUpath™ 2.0 wash formula technology, optimizing chemistry, mechanical action, and cycle design to drive efficiency while maintaining and improving cleanliness standards.
The optimized formula delivered:
- A 47-minute total program time
- Reduced water levels across key stages
- Carefully calibrated chemistry dosing
- Consistent, high-quality results across loads
The Results
Significant Water Reduction
Prior to implementation (11-week average before May 3, 2026):
- Average weekly water usage: 916,304 gallons
- Water usage rate: 1.55 gallons per pound
Post-implementation:
- Week ending May 3: 775,530 gallons (1.44 gal/lb)
- Week ending May 17: 779,360 gallons (1.40 gal/lb)
Water savings exceeding 100,000 gallons per week.
Based on current performance, Alsco Orlando is projected to save:
- ~5.2 million gallons of water annually
- ~$68,000 in combined water and sewer costs per year
Improved Operational Flexibility
A major breakthrough for the plant:
- Ability to shut down 3 to 4 washers without impacting production
- Continued ability to stay fully processed and wrapped out
Impact:
- Increased equipment utilization efficiency
- Reduced strain on active machinery
- Greater scheduling flexibility
Reduced Maintenance Costs and Downtime
With excess washer capacity now available:
- Preventative maintenance can be performed during normal operating hours
- Reduced reliance on weekend maintenance labor
- Lower labor costs and improved equipment longevity
Enhanced Wash Quality
The current TRUpath™ 2.0 formula iteration is producing:
- Best wash quality achieved to date at this location
- Consistent results across classifications
- Ongoing optimization and fine-tuning through titration
Why It Matters
This project demonstrates that laundries do not need to choose between sustainability and performance, water savings and quality, or efficiency and throughput. With the right formula design and system optimization, operations can achieve all three simultaneously.
Customer Impact Overview
- 100,000+ gallons saved per week
- 5.2 million gallons saved annually (projected)
- $68,000 annual utility savings (estimated)
- 3 to 4 washers freed up without production loss
- Improved maintenance efficiency and reduced labor costs
- Highest wash quality achieved at the plant to date
Looking Ahead
WSI continues to work alongside Alsco Orlando to:
- Further optimize formulas through ongoing testing and titration
- Identify additional efficiency gains
- Expand best practices across other locations
The TRUpath™ 2.0 implementation at Alsco Orlando is a clear example of how data-driven wash optimization can deliver meaningful, measurable impact. By reducing water consumption while improving operational flexibility and wash quality, Alsco is better positioned for long-term success in an increasingly resource-conscious industry.
